Our tribe is the Lakota people. We have been studying in our classroom to make this for you!
Where did the Lakota people live?
The lakota people lived in the Northern Great Plains. Where which is now Wisconsin, Minesota, and North and South Dakota. The Lakota travled freely and there was also significant Lakota presence in modern states of, Iowa, Nebraska, Montana, Northern Illinois, and South-Central Canada.
When did the Lakota live?
They lived around the 1800's
What did the Lakota people wear
The women wore deerskin and elk skin dresses. The men wore breech clothes, leggings, and buckskin t-shirts. The Lakota also wore mackasins on there feet and buffalo hide in stormy weather. In colonial times, the lakota adapted Euepean costume such as vests, cloth dreeses, and blanket robes.
What did the Lakota people EAT?
They were corn farmers and also hunters, but once they found horses they began to follow the seasonal migrations of the buffalo. Their diet was mostly buffalo, elk, and deer. The Lakotas also collected choke cherries, fruit, and poetatoes.
What is the Lakotas religion?
Sun dance, vision quest, and sweet lodge are some of the Lakotas religious ceremonies.
How these people survived?
These people survived because they smoked salmon and stored it. these people also survived because they worked together as a tribe.
Why we are studying about these people?
We are studying the Lakota people because we need to learn about the first Americans. And the Lakota are still alive today and are now known as the Sioux.
