Anna,Adam,and Nora's Cheyenne Project
The Cheyenne Tribe lived in the Great Plains and lived during the 1700s and 1800s . The Great Plains were South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas. Cheyenne is pronouced "shy-ann" and their name means relative of the Cree. They lived in lodges, wigwams, and teepees. To survive, they hunted buffalo and grew corn. They always followed the buffalo for food, clothing and many other things. When they were going to follow the buffalo, they could pack their whole village in less than an hour. The Cheyenne had laws, police, and a government like a country and they had 44 chiefs.
The Cheyenne men were hunters and warriors and fed their families. They defended their families and were the only ones who c ould become chiefs. They Cheyenne women built the family home and were in charge of it. The women also carried their babies in craddleboards on their backs. The children had more work than children do today, but in their free time they played many games. They played a hoop game, lacrosse and with dolls. The whole family wore deer skin clothes.
There are still two Cheyenne tribes left today. They live in Montana and Oklahoma.
